Compliance is only a start. Making a difference is the goal. Watch our new sustainability video and see how we work with our customers to make a difference.

Environment

Our commitment to environmental sustainability extends beyond our own employees and mere compliance. We work with our customers and service providers on best practices for environmental sustainability.

Environmental Management

At Expeditors, we go beyond environmental compliance, maintaining a corporate consciousness sensitive to environmental matters. Our goal is to make a difference. This applies not only to our employees and our footprint, but also to our partnerships with our customers and service providers, encouraging and helping them to adopt practices leading to increased environmental sustainability.

Managing Our Environmental Impacts

Expeditors’ Code of Business Conduct outlines our environmental policy. Our Global Environment Team, headed by our President of Global Products, develops our Green Teams worldwide to implement environmental initiatives.

Energy & Emissions

As a service-based logistics company operating directly and indirectly in over 100 countries, we have an impact and influence on climate health. Our direct opportunities to reduce energy and emissions are within our own operations—our offices and warehouses. However, we also promote and provide transparency in our customers’ supply chains, enabling them to make informed decisions about their service providers and logistics solutions.

Working with Customers

We collaborate with several customers, including leaders in multiple industries, to analyze their supply chains and recommend ways to reduce their costs and carbon emissions. Our recommendations include modal shifts such as air to ocean, reducing distances traveled, and consolidating freight to utilize transportation assets more effectively. In these scenarios, we help to reduce both costs and carbon footprint.

Waste

We are in a very paper-intensive business and produce other waste streams such as used computer equipment, food, and everyday waste. Our Global Business Operations team is responsible for sending out frequent communication on resource reduction best practices to our district management. We actively monitor the number of printed pages from our online print server and track reduction through a Print Ratio dashboard. Other waste data, including recycling, garbage, and compost, is increasingly becoming available as more Green Teams start uploading that information into Scope 5 across facilities.
